Healing the Hurt
Have you ever felt like someone had taken your heart, beaten it with a hammer, and all of your life was flowing out with pain? I certainly have. I call that “hurt.” David also felt this hurt when he cried out in Ps. 42:5, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted in me?…” He is asking himself, “What is wrong with you, David? Why are you bent, bowed down: brought low; stooped over with grief?”
“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit” (Ps. 34:18). A “broken heart” is a heart that is broken to shivers. A “contrite spirit” is a beaten out spirit; spirit is crushed or broken down. The Adam Clarke Commentary says that a hammer is implied here. A variety of things can cause this kind of “hurt.” …A wayward child, a cruel mate, the betrayal of a friend, and we could go on and on.
We read in Jer. 23:29, “Is not my word like as a fire? Saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” Hearing a certain scripture, concerning a certain situation, over and over will build our faith (Rom 10:17). This faith-filled scripture declared out of the mouth of the believer will cause any of satan’s hard places (strongholds; a rock) to be broken in pieces. Do you see that our adversary, the devil, attempts to counterfeit this Truth? He may work through someone’s behavior or by speaking to our thoughts his words purposed to hammer our hearts. How long will we put up with this? Now, I don’t mean throw away those who hurt us, but war against the devil who works in them or through our thought life (Eph. 6:12).
Jesus said in Lk. 10.19, "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” See? Satan can’t “hurt” you. Cast down the devil’s “hurtful” words and declare God’s Word. How long will you wait until Jesus heals your broken heart, when He healed it already, 2000 years ago? You don’t have to wait until family, job, desires, and everything else lines up before you are healed of the hurt. Receive it now in Jesus’ name!
